Sales of commercial drones are expected to more than double by 2025.
The global drone market will grow from $22.5 billion in 2020 to more than $42.8 billion by 2025, a new report suggests.
The results, compiled by Drone Industry Insights (DII), show this will be at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 13.8%.
DII says the forecasts were completed after the outbreak of COVID-19 and strive to account for all the different dynamic market changes triggered by the global health crisis.
The survey highlights the continued growth of commercial drone sectoras businesses and organizations look to unmanned aircraft to drive results and transform workflows.
Growth forecast worldwide
The report shows that the current global drone market is worth more than $22 billion and will continue to grow in all regions of the world in the coming years.
According to the results, the Asian market has now overtaken North America as the world's largest regional drone market, at $8.62 billion, compared to $6.89 in North America.
It also predicts that the Asian market will grow the fastest over the next five years, increasing by $9.27 billion to reach $17.89 billion by 2025.
The report suggests this is partly due to sustained growth in the Japanese and Chinese drone markets, home to the world's largest drone manufacturer, DJI – but also because of the significant growth of the Indian drone market.
In fact, after legalizing drones in December 2018, India will be by far the fastest growing commercial drone market in the world, according to the report, and will become the third largest commercial drone market by 2025.
North America, meanwhile, is expected to grow from $6.89 billion to $11.82 billion.
Europe is currently ranked third in regional drone markets, with a value of $5.19 billion, and growth is expected to reach $9.86 billion by 2025.
Elsewhere, the market is expected to grow from $0.59 billion to $1.11 billion in South America; $0.65 to $1.09 billion in Oceania; and between $0.53 billion and $1.08 billion in the Middle East and Africa (MEA).
The rise of commercial drones
Over the past few years, drones have proven themselves in the world of work, helping businesses and organizations improve safety, increase efficiency, collect fast and accurate data, and maximize their return on investment. Drones also have helped save hundreds of lives around the world.

According to the Drone Market Report, this trend shows no signs of slowing down, estimating that sales of commercial drones will more than double between 2020 and 2025.
The report shows that inspection remains the primary method of drone application, but the greatest growth is expected in drone deliveries.
Drone delivery has become a hot topic in the industry, with companies like Amazon keen to carry out such missions; which can be achieved more quickly and inexpensively than traditional methods. Drone deliveries have also skyrocketed during the coronavirus crisis, with unmanned aircraft being used to deliver urgent medical supplies, such as coronavirus testing kits.
Autonomous missions could also pave the way for the drone-in-a-box solution, but there could be a long way to go before these types of missions become commonplace in some parts of the world.
Other key points from the report include:
-
Services is and will continue to be the largest segment of the drone industry, but software is growing the fastest;
-
Energy is and will continue to be the largest industry in the drone market, but transportation and warehousing is the fastest growing and will be the second largest market by 2025.
It is with a view to storage that Heliguy has unveiled a anti-collision cage for DJI Mavic 2 series; ideal for internal missions where space is limited and impacts with objects such as shelves must be avoided.
Summary
The Drone Market Report 2020-2025, compiled by Drone Industry Insights, is an enjoyable and encouraging read.
Despite the impact of coronavirus worldwide, statistics indicate huge growth in the global market.
In fact, the C19 crisis demonstrated the potential of unmanned aircraft, with drones used to spray disinfectant; using loudspeakers to disperse crowds and encourage people to wear masks; monitoring people’s temperatures; and transport quarantine supplies and medical samples, while reducing risks to workers and covering areas quickly.
Drones have become a key tool for enterprise and commercial applications, and this figure is set to grow as more people begin to see the benefits of using unmanned aircraft.
Not only do the figures show the increase in drone use, but they also indicate growth in new areas, such as deliveries, which could pave the way for more innovation and new ways of thinking.
