Illegal gold mining in Ghana has resumed this year following a nearly 30% rise in global gold prices, despite military operations to stop them.
About 70 to 80 percent of the country's small mines are unlicensed, and so far this year they have produced 1.2 million ounces of gold.
Also known as Galamsey in Ghana, it has become an important topic in the run-up to elections in the country. The BBC's Daniel Dadzie explains more.
