Two suspects are still on the run almost three years after the events. infamous gold heist at Toronto Pearson International Airport, according to police.
To date, nine people have been charged or are being sought, and more than 21 charges have been laid after more than $20 million in gold and $2.5 million in cash were stolen from Pearson in April 2023.
A Peel Regional Police The spokesperson told Global News in an email Thursday that Simran Preet Panesar, 33, and Prasath Paramalingam, 36, were still wanted.
Panesar, a former Air Canada employee believed to be in India, is wanted for theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. Paramalingam, a resident of Brampton, Ontario, is wanted on an arrest warrant after failing to appear in court on August 19, 2024.
Police arrested the majority of suspects a year after the robbery. Arsalan Chaudhary, 44 years old, who was arrested in January at Pearson Airport after arriving on a flight from Dubai, was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison and ordered to repay $22 million.
The robbery of April 17, 2023, which caused international headlines at the time it involved 6,600 gold bars and cash stolen from Pearson.

The gold and currencies were ordered from a refinery in Zurich, Switzerland, and were transported in a container via an Air Canada flight that landed in Toronto.

This flight landed at 3:56 p.m. The cargo was then unloaded from the aircraft at an Air Canada cargo facility at 6:32 p.m.
Police say a suspect arrived at the establishment with a “fraudulent airfare invoice” and handed it to an attendant.
Shortly after, a forklift arrived with a container of gold and foreign currency, which was loaded into the back of the suspect's truck.
Around 9:30 p.m., Brink's Canada employees went to the Air Canada cargo site to collect the shipment of gold and foreign currency. The police were contacted the next day and an investigation was launched.
Video surveillance obtained by officers showed the truck traveling west, in the Halton region, north of Milton, Ontario. This area is more rural and the truck ended up being lost.

On April 17, 2024, police announced that 37 search warrants had been issued, along with 70 production orders. Officers seized $430,000 in Canadian currency during search warrants.
Six crudely made gold bracelets resembling bangles were also seized and sent for expertise. They were made of pure gold and their total value exceeded $89,000.
In addition, agents seized foundries, cast irons and molds. The truck allegedly used to steal the gold and cash was also seized by the police.
The investigation into the theft continues.
